In this video, I want to show you how to create bot inputs for ultimate flexibility.

So, bot-level inputs are absolutely a little bit more of an advanced feature, but allow you to start using inputs at the bot settings level as opposed to the automation settings level. This means that you can consolidate some of the settings that you use for a particular bot into some bot inputs versus using them in the automations.

I’m going to walk through how to do it here on this demo bot and on this demo bot I’ve already added two different scanners that we want to run.

Notice that we have a Trend with Momentum for Spreads and then we also have a CCI Swing scanner. Both of these scanners currently are set up to run using the same ticker symbol and we’ve already used a single custom input inside of each of these automations to select the ticker symbol.

We’ve gone over this in previous videos, so you can review those inside of those videos as well. But in this case we have a ticker symbol field where we have selected SPY for this particular automation.

Notice that for the other scanner that we’re running we’ve also included a ticker symbol field which includes SPY also. The problem comes in this case when you want to change the ticker symbol. Let’s say that we want this bot to run on a different ticker instead of SPY. Well, it takes a couple extra steps to change all of the tickers to something else. That’s not incredibly complicated, but we can make this process a lot easier using bot-level inputs.

If we were to just change the ticker symbol right here, we could just make a tweak or change to TLT and then go ahead and save and go into this other automation here and also change the ticker symbol to TLT and then save. Again, not a lot of steps necessarily, but if you have a bunch of automations or a bunch of different inputs that you’re using, it can become quite cumbersome to go through and make all those changes.

So what do we do instead? Well, we create bot-level inputs.

Now before we do that real quick, I just want to show you where these inputs are going to be shown once we create them. You go up to your global settings for the bot that you’re running and click on the settings drop down. Now notice inside of the global settings for this bot, we have our allocation and name, and icon, as well as our standard position limits, but we don’t have any custom inputs yet. That’s because we haven’t created them, so let’s do that now.

To create bot -level inputs, you simply go to the automation that you want to start with to create the input. You can choose any of your automations in here that have custom inputs, and then we can go from there. So, we’ll open up this first one here “CCI Swing with Spreads.”

Now notice to the right of the ticker field, just like when you created a custom input for the automation, you actually have a field to create what’s called a custom bot-level input. And now you can go to this screen where you can add your bot-level input. This again takes the decision making one step up in the process and sends it to the global settings. In this case we’ll call this one “Master Ticker Symbol."

This means that with this master ticker symbol, we can reuse it across any of the different automations that we’re currently running inside of our bot. We’ll set a default value. In this case we’ll say GLD and then we go ahead and save. Now that custom field has been created for a bot input.

Notice that the ticker field, very similar to how we do it inside of automations, has now changed to this variable called “Master Ticker.” We can do it for the other one as well, but we’ll leave it here for “Master Ticker” inside of this video. Once we’re done, we simply hit save.

Now we go to the next automation that we want to look at. In this case the "Trend with Momentum," and notice that we haven’t linked the custom input field for the bot input. We still have our typed in field here, our input field of TLT, but we can go over to this icon here and now we can reuse the “Master Ticker.”

This is really cool because now one bot-level input is being used across multiple automations. This again is how you can link multiple automations and multiple data points and inputs into the automations that you’re running for a bot just by using this bot-level inputs. Once we’re good to go, we simply hit save.

Now we’ve created these variable fields for each of the ticker symbols. That means that we can go up to our custom inputs or to our settings field here and once we click on the settings, we’ll notice a new field that is shown here called "input." This means that we can change the “Master Ticker” for the entire bot and every field that is using that simply one time in the global settings.

Once we’re good to go, we simply hit save, and now that new ticker symbol is being used throughout the bot anywhere that the bot-level input was created.

Again, this creates another level of flexibility and creates another way to link together different inputs or similar values and fields across multiple automations inside of your bots. And because those bot-level inputs have now been created, anytime that we create a new scanner that has inputs we can reference those new inputs that we created at the bot-level for our new scanners.

Let’s add another scanner to this one and we’ll call this one the “Honey Badger Scanner.” Notice that the honey badger has a lot of custom inputs, but we also have the ticker symbol field here as well. We’ve already created the bot-level input for the ticker, so we simply want to connect to that “Master Ticker” that we created.

Once we do that, now that “Master Ticker” symbol is going to flow through to any automations that have that connected. Once we’re done, we simply hit save and now add that to our list of scanners.

Again, if we want to change the ticker symbol because it’s now a bot-level input, we simply go to the global settings, scroll down to our inputs and then swap the ticker. In this case, we can choose something like TLT or whatever we want. Once we’re good to go we simply hit save and now we have bot-level inputs working for our bots.
