Template Best Practices

These template best practices help you create, organize, and share templates in the Community.

This video is designed to help you keep your bot templates updated and organized for yourself and other Community members.

It is important to stay organized and detailed with your templates as you create and share bots.

Templates and their notes belong to you as a place to track your trading rules, strategies, performance, resources, links, and ideas.

We suggest using a short, detailed description to easily identify a template and its purpose from the title.

Be sure to keep your bot template’s global settings updated. We suggest setting the daily and total position limits to one for all shared templates. Always double-check position limits when using a template.

A great way to stay organized is to keep a detailed log of notes for your templates, especially as you modify and update them.

Remember, a template’s notes are only visible to you.

If you update a shared template, we recommend updating the template’s description in your Community post. It is also a good idea to explain the changes made to each new version of the template, so other members can see what you changed and why you made the changes.

Templates are an easy way to save and memorialize different strategies and automations from your bots and those shared in the Community.

You can save as many templates to your library as you want, so organizing and updating your templates is wise as you scale your portfolio.

What is the difference between a template and a clone?

Templates allow you to save, edit, and reuse strategies. You can reuse the framework of a trading strategy with a template.

Cloning replicates a bot so you can immediately add it to your portfolio and modify its settings. You can clone a template.

How should I name my bot templates?

You should name your templates in a way that makes them easily identifiable and helps you understand the bot’s objectives.

How can I best use the "Notes" field in my templates?

The notes field is ideal for you to document your thoughts for the trading strategy, along with any links, screenshots, or any other information you may want to include.

What can I put into my template’s notes?

The template notes field can contain all kinds of information, including text, screenshots, links to articles, videos and webpages, and any other information you may want to include.

Do my notes get shared with the bot template?

No, notes are private to you. Only the template’s name, history, automations, and description are displayed.

What are some best practices for organizing my bot templates?

You should develop a system that helps you easily identify your different templates and strategies. For example, yellow icons could be for neutral strategies, while green icons are for long strategies.

How should I use the "Description" field in my bot template?

The description field is where you can provide a brief summary of the bot’s objective and purpose. The description field is visible when you share the template.
